Health Seminars
The MDDA Health Promotion Project was launched in December 2002, funded by a grant from the UK Department of Health. It aims to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of healthy living by educating ethnic minority communities on health issues such as diabetes, smoking, stroke, cardiovascular disease and healthy eating. We provide the funding and support for local doctors to work with their own community centres and mosques to hold health promotion seminars. Each one is tailored to the specific needs of the community, with many lectures delivered in native languages such as Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarat. These seminars have been hugely successful and very well received, often with support from other national services such as the Blood Donor Service and local NHS Trusts.
